Restorative Justice

Rooted in indigenous practices and abolition, restorative justice is a way of addressing harm that centers the needs of the person who was harmed, and focuses on repair rather than punishment. As a survivor of sexual harm and former advocate working in the violence prevention field, I understand that survivors have limited options and face further harm within the criminal legal system.

I participated in a restorative justice process from 2020-2021, and I have seen the ripples of healing it has created. I am passionate about advancing alternate forms of healing and accountability for those who have experienced harm, and those who have committed harm. This is a binary that within restorative justice, is crucial to dissolve.

I offer resourcing for support, an exploration of the context in which harm occurred, compassionate conversations around accountability, and education about consent and other relevant topics.

I hold space for participants to reflect on their personal understanding of justice and societal conditioning about punitive systems. This is especially helpful for those who are new to restorative justice and are directly interfacing with survivors. I also share my experience as a survivor of harm, and offer insights about the impact of my RJ process.

I will guide you in talking to survivors about restorative justice, holding culturally sensitive listening sessions, and incorporating the values of restorative justice in your existing work.
